ProUganda gives a new feeling of life with Prosthesis and Orthesis

Alex, 24 years

He had a motorcycle accident in 1997, thereafter an amputation of the lower leg.

Since his accident Alex never got a prosthetic provision. He has a very short lower leg stump which makes a provision more difficult. On October 4th, 2018 he got a prosthesis from ProUganda.

Brian, 20 years

Due to a motorcycle accident in 2011 he had an amputation of the lower leg.

At that time he got a prosthesis but after one year he had grown out of it. It took 6 years and on October 16th, 2018 he was able to walk again on two legs.

Antonio, 21 years

Antonio was born with one leg being too short and one crippled foot. The only provision he had got so far was a shoe with a thick sole. This shoe adjustment could not balance the legs' difference of 11 cm. With this provision he did not only get back problems but also got a limping gait pattern.

On September 26th, 2018 he got an orthesis. Orthesic provisions are rarely seen in Uganda. The orthesis balances the legs' difference and enables Antonio to walk correctly.

Frances, 50 years

Frances had an upper leg amputation due to an infection in 1965. She had a prosthesis which she could only wear with pain. It just did not fit her anymore. On September 28th, 2018 she got a new prosthesis.

Andrew, 30 years

After having a motorcycle accident in 2014

he needed a lower leg amputation.

On September 10th, 2018 he got his first

prosthetical provision.

Peter, 30 years

Due to a car accident in 2017 he had to undergo a lower leg amputation.

On September 10th, 2018 he got a prosthesis. With him on the picture is Isabell Lengers, an educated orthopaedic technician working for ProUganda for 6 months.

Patients building, Building site

The walls are almost finished. The building itself will probably be ready by the end of the year.
