Genesis Fashion Show 2017
It all started with the idea of making a platform for our upcoming fashion designer and artists, giving them the opportunity to exhibit their God given talents. We want to promote and revive African fashion and art in the country, but also on international level.
In our vocational school we have the department for tailoring and fashion design and the idea of having a fashion show was like a spark that set the hearts and minds of our students and teachers on fire. We started discussing and planning how to put the fashion show together and our students begun designing their outfits for the big day. The excitement, the creativity and the colors were fantastic.
We invited also designers, artists and models from outside the Ministry as we wanted to meet people from all over Uganda who share our interests and passion for fashion and art. Several designers responded positively to our invitations and we were thrilled to see a big turn up on the big day.
Our volunteers, the students from the Vocational Institute and Christian College were trained as models to present the outfits. We had a lot of fun during the modeling training and all participants did an excellent job.
The catwalk was professionally made by the carpenters from our vocational institute and was surrounded by natural flowers – amazing art work.
The big day was approaching very fast and we all were working hard on final touches.
Saturday, 25th Feb. 2017, at 8.30 am, models and designers started arriving at the premises – the big Community Hall of VFAI. The atmosphere was charged with excitement and we entered the final rehearsal. The models did their walks for each designer in tune with the music and the dancing group got ready for the grand opening.
We had 10 designers from Uganda – the youngest of which was only 18 years, but an extraordinary talent. National and international guests attended the fashion show and enjoyed the artwork of our young people.
